Obama = White

Sooooo....

Obama is WHITE

All those people celebrating last tuesday that we have our first black president are wrong. Obama has a white mother and a black father. His mother raised him, and he has seen his father once in his life. So why do people choose to call him black when genetically he is only %50 black and %50 white? So I call him White because he is more than %50 white through his raising.

One more thing... I don't care that Obama is white... and I don't care that the media has it wrong and is calling him Black. I am just sick of it being about race, and not about a qualified president elect.

I've heard this argument before, and, not gonna lie, I think it's a pretty poor one. While I agree that race shouldn't matter, the reality is that it does. The world isn't colorblind, and it shouldn't be.
President-Elect Obama could be 5% black, but because he "looks black" he's considered black...with both the positive and negative stereotypes and ramifications of that label. Because he was treated as black (or halfrican-American as Jess Hieronimus likes to call herself), the fact that he was raised by a white family doesn't matter. You can "act white" (or black or brown or any number of colors) as much as you want, but that doesn't negate your history or genetics, nor does it make you any less a part of your race.
It's unfortunate that his win (and campaigning previously) is so much about race. It shouldn't be the most important part, but it is a big deal and does mean a lot to generations of people (especially kids) who have never seen someone in office who looked like them.
Just my 2 cents.

I agree. The world should not be colorblind... Really law enforcement benefits a lot from racial profiling!

I am probably %5 Jewish, I have had people call me a Jew, I have had people call me an f****** Jew. Reality is... I am not a Jew. I may look a little Jewish, I might have a little Jew geneology in me, but I was not raised Jewish, I was not raised by Jewish parents... hence I am exactly that I am Jew'ish (kind'a sort'a... maybe a little bit... but not really). So maybe it is just a label that needs to be started... Obama is black'ish

This also reminded me of a thought that came out of a conversation I had with a friend. How come it is racist for a person NOT to vote for Obama because he is (note the quotations) "black", but it is not racist for a person TO vote for Obama because he is "black"?

One more thing... I remember it being said that the black community (or whatever the media defines that as) was saying that Obama was not "black enough"

Just googled two quickies

...I'm tired of talking about it... It is not about race (although it has been made about race through the campaigning and news coverage as Vanessa stated)

I just do not think he is qualified... But who am I really to say? ...Just a guy who lives in a place with people...meaningless, meaningless... a chasing after the wind...

Been great seeing your comment Vanessa!!!! Hope all is fanstinkintastic!

Was just gonna add that I actually have heard folks say it would have been racist had they voted for Obama (a professor of mine comes to mine--he has two adopted children who are black and would love to have a president his kids can look to and say, "Hey, that guy looks like me." However, he's totally against everything Obama stood/stands for, so couldn't bring himself to vote for him solely on that merit), so I think that it's there, just not as prevalent. Honestly, it's simply easier to hate on the majority or the most vocal since they always seem to be on top.
